IIM-C prof to miss date with vote after address change request

Kolkata: The 38-year-old assistant professor at Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-Calcutta), who has been exercising her voting rights since 2009, has been knocked out of the electoral rolls.
Her father and grandfather had served the Indian Air Force. She has filed an appeal before the tribunal.
A Jadavpur University (JU) alumnus, she had been a faculty member at the institute's branches in Kashipur, Lucknow and Calcutta.
"I have been a voter of Jadavpur constituency. I have voted since 2009," Roy said.
She had filled up the enumeration form online, mapping herself to her grandfather, who was a voter of Ballygunge. Her father had expired in 2022.
She had uploaded her documents proving linkage. She had filled up Form 8 for seeking a change of address to Rashbehari constituency. Her name appeared on the draft list published in Dec.
But she found her name under adjudication on the final list on Feb 28.
On March 31, the name was deleted from the list. She claimed to have not been called for hearing.
"They are making mistakes because they are overwhelmed. This is a grave problem. There is a callousness how the SIR process was carried out hurriedly. If it happened over two years, it would be fair. I will not be able to cast my vote this time, even if it is corrected later on," she said. The assistant professor dubbed this as injustice. According to her, she has been told to apply as new voter. "Why will I fill Form 6? I am not a new voter. I have been voting from 2009," Roy questioned.
