Jalpaiguri: In a strange turn of events, Falakata MLA and BJP candidate Dipak Barman was assigned election duty as a presiding officer for the April 23 phase-I assembly polls. In fact, he was also issued a show-cause notice for failing to attend mandatory training sessions.
The Alipurduar district election officer on Monday withdrew both the assignment and the notice, terming it a system-generated error.
Barman, who is also the headmaster of Deogaon Higher Secondary School in Falakata, had received official communication directing him to attend the training ahead of the elections.
"Anyone who is absent in the training sessions is automatically served show-cause notices. We waived Barman off his election duty and revoked the show-cause notice," a senior official said.
So far, around 600 govt employees in Alipurduar have been served show-cause notices.
