  • Kolkata: The alumni association of Naktala High School, actor Rahul Banerjee's alma mater, held a memorial service for him and issued a charter of demands, seeking answers from the "competent authorities" and the production house, for which he was shooting when he reportedly drowned in Talsari.

Soumen Bhattacharya, secretary of the association, told TOI they did not want to be kept in the dark about the investigation. "We know him as Arunoday, and not Rahul. Two FIRs were registered, 17 days have passed, and there is still no clear account of what happened or where the probe stands," he said. The alumni demanded a police update. "We want to know if the production house had police permission and if it consulted locals, fishermen and lifeguards about the sea condition. Why has his co-actor, Sweta Mishra, not yet given a statement? Why was there a delay in taking him to the hospital, and why was no doctor or medical team present during such a risky shoot? We want to know who accompanied him to the hospital and what those people told police. The production house and the serial's director have to reveal what happened. A proper probe has to be conducted so that his son knows how his father died," Bhattacharya said.
