• Production house starts disbursing actors’ pay for stalled TV serials

  • Kolkata: Payments for actors who have been working for ‘Bhole Baba Par Karega' and ‘Chiroshokha', the two serials being produced by Magic Moments, have started being disbursed. Work on the two serials has stalled since actor Rahul Banerjee died in Talsari while shooting for ‘Bhola Baba Par Karega'.

The production house follows a system, under which an actor has to generate an invoice, stating the number of days he or she has worked. The bill is tallied with the production managers' records and the amount is transferred directly to the bank. There is no pending invoice from actor Rahul.

West Bengal Motion Picture Artists' Forum on Sunday urged its members to share their outstanding bills from Magic Moments. "We are not payment defaulters. On Sunday, I called up the artistes and asked them to send their invoices for Feb for payment clearance," said Sumit Roy, executive producer, Magic Moments.

Rahul joined the unit in mid-Feb. "He shot till March 27 afternoon at Movietone Studio and then left for Talsari. Usually, actors raise the invoice after a month. Rahul's invoice was likely to be submitted in March-end. Unfortunately, it didn't happen," Roy said.

Jan payments have been disbursed. "It takes 40-45 days for us to disburse payments. Actors Ambarish Bhattacharya, Reshmi Sen and Rajanya Mitra's payments for Feb have been cleared," Roy said.

Confirming it, Bhattacharya said, "I submitted my invoice on the first of the month after finishing the previous month's work. The March payment is expected by May-beginning. Magic Moments has never had payment problems. That's why I have worked with them for 10 years. We were told all dues will be cleared even if we quit or the serials go off air," he said.

Sen told TOI she was late in submitting her Feb bills. "I got the Feb payment of ‘Chirosokha' within five hours of submitting my invoice. I am told I will get my ‘Bhole Baba...' money soon. With this production house, I had to wait for 60 days after the shoot to get my dues. I was told the March payment of ‘Bhole Baba...' won't happen before 60 days," Sen said.
