  • Kolkata: A fire broke out on the top floor of a two-storey residential building on Ekbalpore Lane in Mominpore, located in the densely populated Naptani Bagan locality. No one was injured.

An Ekbalpore PS officer said it was around 4.20 pm that thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing out of a room on the upper floor of the building, prompting residents to rush out. Locals initially attempted to douse the flames before three fire engines arrived.

Firefighters faced significant challenges navigating the narrow lanes to reach the building. But once they did, they managed to control the blaze quickly, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures. The fire was doused within an hour by 5.22 pm. "There was no report of injury or anyone being trapped inside," a senior police officer said.

A short circuit is suspected to be the cause. tnn
