  • Lakshman Ghorui, BJP candidate for the Durgapur West Assembly constituency and sitting MLA, has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging that morphed nude images of him have been pasted on buses using artificial intelligence (AI) technology in an attempt to defame him ahead of the polls.

Residents were reportedly shocked today after allegedly obscene images of the BJP candidate were found pasted on the rear sides of minibuses operating in Durgapur.

“In fear of losing the polls, supporters of the TMC candidate have stooped to such levels to malign me. My supporters informed me that these images have been pasted on minibuses running on Route 8B, which are operating across the Durgapur West Assembly area,” Mr Ghorui alleged.

TMC district spokesperson V Sivadasan (Dasu) rejected the allegations, stating that the party has no involvement in the incident. He instead blamed internal factionalism within the BJP in Durgapur West for the episode.

Mr Ghorui has informed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Durgapur and the District Magistrate (DM) of West Burdwan about the matter.

Kabi Dutta, former chairman of ADDA and president of the Durgapur Chamber of Commerce, is the TMC candidate for the Durgapur West seat.

Sources said the district administration has already ordered the removal of the images and directed officials to keep a close watch on the situation.
