Kolkata: A Kolkata Police constable was placed under suspension following allegations of influencing voters during the ongoing election process.
According to an official order issued by the joint commissioner of police (headquarters) on Saturday, Constable Sk Masud Karim of the Reserve Force was suspended with immediate effect from April 18, pending an inquiry into his conduct.
This followed his alleged involvement in a case registered at Bhabanipur PS in East Midnapore under Section 129 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The charge related to attempts to influence voters at the SDO office in Haldia during postal ballot voting. Karim will receive half of his basic pay and other admissible allowances as subsistence allowances during his suspension period. TNN
