Kolkata: A 29-year-old man, an advocate by profession, was arrested on Friday night for his alleged involvement in the gang rape of a massage therapist in Salt Lake. He denied all charges against him.
On Saturday, he was produced before the Bidhannagar Court, which remanded him in police custody.
The accused was apprehended from Chinar Park following a month-long delay in reporting the crime, which was caused by the woman's immense trauma.
The incident reportedly took place on Feb 13 in the Khalpar area of Salt Lake. Cops said the woman was lured to the spot on the pretext of a massage assignment.
Upon her arrival, she was allegedly ambushed by the advocate and an associate before being joined by a third man who participated in the sexual assault. Cops have launched a manhunt for two other accomplices who remain at large. The woman's confidential statement was recorded before a magistrate.
Detectives will be interrogating the accused to establish the identity and whereabouts of the other two suspects involved in the crime.
