Kolkata: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly coerced into sharing her private photos online and was blackmailed by the receiver, prompting her family to lodge a police complaint. Based on the complaint, Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police launched a probe into the case where a woman allegedly trapped the girl using nude photographs on social media. Cops registered a case under relevant sections of cybercrime laws and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The incident came to light after the minor's father filed a formal complaint, alleging the accused was demanding money and threatening to circulate the girl's private photos.
Cops said the girl befriended a woman on Instagram who sent a nude photograph of herself to the girl. The accused then allegedly intimidated her, claiming the girl would be arrested unless she sent a similar nude photograph back. The minor complied and sent the photograph. Shortly after, the accused began demanding money, threatening to publish the image if her demands were not met. "While cases of honey-trapping men are frequently reported, a woman targeting a minor girl in this manner is quite rare," an officer said.
