Malda: Six people died in three accidents on the national highway in North Dinajpur's Itahar on Monday. At Mahadevpur, about 5 km from Itahar, a stone-chip laden dumper collided with a truck. The driver of the dumper was declared dead at Raiganj Medical College.
An ambulance that was to ferry Islam arrived after he had been taken to hospital and it was on its way back when a lorry hit it from behind. Ambulance worker Subal Sarkar (40) died on the spot. The impact led the ambulance to hit some pedestrians, one of whom was crushed to death.
In another incident, a mini-truck rammed a deserted roadside structure. Three persons in the truck were killed in the accident.
