Kolkata: The mercury rose further on Tuesday, making the city singe, with the humidity adding to the heat factor. Even as the mercury is expected to rise further, the Met officials allayed the fear for heat wave-like conditions in Kolkata. Some western districts are already reeling under heat wave-like conditions at present. The Met office indicated the possibility of some rain respite by Saturday.
"We expect the maximum temperature to shoot up further and stand between 36 and 37 degrees by Wednesday. Even as the mercury is still below normal mark, it is the high humidity which is pushing up the discomfort level," said RMC Kolkata head HR Biswas.
The maximum temperature, which stood at 34.6 degrees on Monday, jumped to 35.6 degrees on Tuesday.
