  • Kolkata: Actress and former Trinamool MP Nusrat Jahan on Wednesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a complaint lodged against her company. The agency, in a separate case, sent summons to state ministers Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh.

Nusrat had earlier urged ED officials to conduct the interrogation in New Delhi but agency officials reportedly declined her request. Accordingly, Nusrat reached the ED office on Wednesday morning. After nearly eight hours, she came out of the ED office, holding the hand of Yash Dasgupta, her husband. Asked about why she was sent a summons, Nusrat said, "You should find out."

The case pertains to an alleged fraud by a company, which had reportedly duped more than 400 senior citizens of their money in 2014-15. The company had reportedly promised 1,000 sq-ft flats to those victims, none of whom allegedly received the flats or got their money back. It was alleged that the company had usurped Rs 24 crore from the investors who had paid a booking amount for flats. The company had allegedly taken Rs 24 crore from the investors, who had paid their booking amounts for the apartments.

Nusrat had earlier claimed that she had resigned from the company, which was brought under the authorities' scanner following complaints from the investors. In 2023, the ED had questioned Nusrat for about six hours in connection with the case. During the questioning, she had claimed she had nothing to do with the deal, and produced documents of her earnings since 2013-14. Between 2013-14 and 2017-18, her total earnings stood at Rs 1.1 crore.

In a separate probe of an alleged municipal recruitment scam, the ED sent summons to ministers Bose and Ghosh, asking them to appear before it on Friday. While Bose is contesting the election from Bidhannagar, Ghosh is fighting from Madhyamgram, both of which will go to the polls on April 29. ED had sent summons to them even earlier but they reportedly did not appear.
