  • Howrah: Bamungachi in Liluah turned into a battlefield on Sunday as Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters clashed, prompting the Election Commission to order the transfer of two Howrah police inspectors.

The violence broke out when a Trinamool procession passed close to a BJP roadshow attended by actor Ravi Kishan.

Eleven people were injured and cops detained seven from both Trinamool Congress and BJP sides.

Trinamool Congress alleged BJP workers attacked first, a claim denied by BJP. The procession was initially dispersed but regrouped, leading to clashes with sticks, bamboo and iron rods. Police and central forces resorted to lathicharge to restore order.
