  • Trinamul Congress has alleged that the police observer in South 24-Parganas is visiting the houses and misbehaving with women in absence of the male members of the family.

Senior leader Chandrima Bhattacharya alleged that the police observer appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI), known to be as an encounter specialist, is visiting the houses and misbehaving with women. “Can any police officer visit the house of a candidate and harass women of the family,” she said the ECI guidelines specifically mention that “an observer is the eyes and ears of ECI and not the arms and legs.” She said a complaint has been lodged with the ECI for necessary steps to be taken against the officer.

Aroop Biswas alleged that the paramilitary force personnel are scaring the people and they are behaving the way as if a war-like situation has developed.

“People are watching everything and will cast their votes to oust the BJP,” he maintained.

He urged Trinamul Congress workers to maintain cool and not fall into the trap hatched by the BJP. He also urged people to go to the polling stations early and cast their votes.

It is worth mentioning that later a police complaint was filed against the officer in question, Ajay Pal Sharma and Central forces, by one of the women victims for barging into houses at night and assaulting women in Falta.
