‘Will win by at least 1 lakh votes’: Dilip Ghosh bets big on Kharagpur
The Statesman | 4 May 2026
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Monday exuded confidence ahead of vote counting in West Bengal, claiming he would secure a decisive victory in Kharagpur and that his party would sweep the state.
“I will win by at least 1 lakh votes in Kharagpur. The Trinamool Congress was not able to incite violence during polling, nor will they be able to do so during the counting, as the security arrangements are airtight. We will get a landslide victory in Bengal,” Ghosh said.
His remarks come at a time when the state is on edge ahead of counting, with political tensions running high following allegations of irregularities and violence during polling in several constituencies.
A day earlier, Ghosh had dismissed the Trinamool Congress’ chances in the Falta Assembly seat, where the Election Commission has ordered a complete repoll across all 285 polling stations.
“There is no possibility of TMC winning. They are doing all this to give mental support to their workers,” he told IANS.
The poll panel cited “severe electoral offences” and a “subversion of the democratic process” during the second phase of voting on April 29. Repolling in Falta is scheduled for May 21, with counting on May 24, separate from the rest of the state, where votes will be counted on May 4.
The Election Commission has also ordered repolling in 15 booths across Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim constituencies.
Ghosh alleged that voters in parts of Bengal have long faced intimidation and suppression, claiming people were earlier prevented from exercising their franchise.
With the counting day approaching, all parties are closely watching the situation as security remains heightened across key centres.
