In a swift move to accelerate government formation after a historic mandate, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit West Bengal on Thursday evening, with key strategy meetings scheduled ahead of the BJP Legislature Party meeting likely on May 8.
According to reports, Shah will travel to West Bengal directly after attending a cabinet expansion oath-taking ceremony in Bihar, underlining the urgency attached to the post-election process in the state. His visit comes at a critical juncture as the party begins formal steps toward forming its first government in West Bengal.
Soon after his arrival, Shah is expected to chair a crucial meeting with senior leaders and core committee members. The discussions will focus on assessing the political situation, reviewing organisational preparedness, and finalising the next course of action.
Reportedly, ahead of the legislature party meeting, Shah will hold detailed consultations on the upcoming oath-taking ceremony. Deliberations are expected to include the composition of the new cabinet, allocation of portfolios, and key governance priorities.
The visit highlights the central leadership’s direct involvement in shaping the party’s roadmap and ensuring a coordinated transition to power.
Earlier, Shah was appointed as the BJP’s central observer for West Bengal, with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi serving as co-observer.
The BJP’s victory marks a major political shift in the state. The party won 206 seats in the 294-member assembly, a sharp rise from its 77 seats in 2021. The All India Trinamool Congress, which had dominated the previous election, secured 80 seats this time.
