• Chief Minister gets new advisor, personal assistant

  • On Monday, the newly-elected Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari would chair a meeting of senior officers of the state and city police, which is also likely to be attended by Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala and the Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh, along with the DGP Siddhi Nath Gupta at the Nabanna Sabhaghar at 5 p.m, said sources.

    In another development, sources in the know claimed that on Monday, the rest of the ministers of Cabinet are likely to take oath and the first Cabinet meeting is also likely at the Assembly, which had been spruced up for the purpose.

    Identifying the state law and order as the core issue, Mr Adhikari held an impromptu meeting with the state Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and the DGP at the makeshift PWD camp at the Brigade Parade Ground, where he asked the senior officers to look into the law and order situation.

    The meeting also believed to have discussed progress of the ongoing renovation work at the Writers’ Buildings, sources claimed.

    From being “Special observer” of the Election Commission of India for the just-concluded Assembly election in the state to being appointed as an adviser to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Subrata Gupta, has had a change in roles. A notification to this effect was issued by the state secretariat Nabanna today.

    In another move, Nabanna today also appointed Santanu Bala, an IAS officer, as the personal secretary to the new Chief Minister.

    Mr Gupta had performed the role of Special observer of the poll panel during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Commission.

    Only Thursday, he was relieved of his assignment as Special Observer of the Commission.

    Whereas, Santanu Bala, an IAS officer of 2017 batch, was Additional District Magistrate of South 24-Parganas till his new assignment was announced.
