• BJP ‘No’ to TMC members joining party in Bishnupur

  • The district BJP, following strict instructions from the party’s state president regarding defectors, today put up a giant banner in the temple town of Bishnupur declaring ‘No’ to Trinamul Congress supporters and members.

The banner was placed at the busy Rabindranath Tagore crossing in the town, where the message, written in Bengali, is clearly visible to passers-by.

Soon after the BJP’s electoral victory, the party’s Bengal president, Samik Bhattacharya, had announced that the doors of the BJP would remain closed, for now, to any TMC leaders or workers seeking to join the party. He stressed that the BJP would not accept defectors.

BJP Yuva Morcha leader Tanmoy Chakraborty alleged that TMC workers had launched “vulgar attacks” on the BJP’s poll candidate Shukla Chatterjee in the Bishnupur Assembly constituency.

He said: “Before we could react, the voters of Bishnupur gave them a most befitting reply by defeating the TMC’s sitting MLA. We have put up the banner at a busy crossing so that common people can see it and understand our true intention.”

The district leadership of the Trinamul Congress declined to comment on the matter.
