  • Kolkata: The seven-member CBI SIT probing the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant of CM Suvendu Adhikari, on May 6, near his Madhyamgram home, visited the spot for the second time on Wednesday even as central agency sleuths said the crime was an organised one involving people from multiple states.

    The probe team carried out a 3D mapping of Dohariya and spoke to key witnesses, including the survivor, Montu Mondal. Buddhadeb Bera, the driver, is undergoing treatment. The questioning of the three accused, confirmed the contract was worth around Rs 1.5 crore. The main accused, Raj Singh, a resident of Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, said the murder involved meticulous surveillance and expensive weapons, the Glock firearm alone was reportedly worth over Rs10 lakh. The CBI has also confirmed drawing up the murder FIR at its ACB Kolkata branch and stating how multiple crimes were committed in the single act of the shooting.

    "Suspected acts include wrongful restraint, punishment for murder, criminal conspiracy, punishment for organised crime resulting in death, criminal acts done by several persons with common intention, punishment for illegal possession of arms, punishment for using prohibited arms," CBI stated in the FIR.
