Kolkata: Food and supplies minister Ashok Kirtania on Wednesday announced that ration shops would no longer supply flour but will provide high-quality wheat to ensure better public health and transparency.
After his swearing-in, Kirtania said the department would for now distribute the flour stock, still remaining in govt warehouses. "Flour will not be procured. We will not take any risk on the health of the common man," the minister said. This move is part of a broader "cleansing process", initiated by Kirtania, who vowed to uproot the "irregularities that have long plagued the ration system". tnn
