• Police announces 2 traffic blocks on EM Bypass from Friday metro work

  • The impasse over the Chingrighata crossing of Orange Line Metro is finally set to end. The city traffic police have announced two traffic blocks of 60-hour each of the EM Bypass starting this Friday to enable the segment launching work near the Chingrighata crossing.

    As informed by the city traffic police in a communique today, the first 60-hour block is to be taken from 8 p.m. on 15 May to 8 a.m. 18 May for segment launching work between pier number 317 to P 318 across the Western flank of the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. The second 60-hour block would be taken from 8 p.m. on 22 May to 8 a.m. on 25 May for segment launching work between P318-P319 across the Eastern flank of EM Bypass by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, the implementing agency of the project.

    To enable the work, the city police has also declared some diversions of vehicles. According to the notification issued, during the first phase of the block that the north-bound closure, the Western flank of the EM Bypass is to remain closed near Chingrighata underneath Chingrighata flyover. For the south-bound closure during the second phase, the eastern flank of the EM Bypass near Chingrighata crossing would be closed. During the closure of the western flank in the first phase, all north-bound vehicles for Salt Lake and the Airport would be diverted from EM Bypass in front of NX Hotel to avail newly-constructed north-bound diversion road underneath the metro viaduct towards Chingrighata.

    Also, vehicles availing Chingrighata flyover for Salt Lake would avail the newly-constructed north-bound diversion road for their journey towards Chingrighata Crossing-EM Bypass – right turn to Broadway Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate area. Diversions of vehicles have also been announced for the second phase of the traffic block.
