  • Kolkata: A 60-year-old auto-rickshaw driver died after he was allegedly assaulted following an altercation near the Nimtala Ghat on Wednesday morning.

    Cops from the Jorabagan PS arrested the accused, Madhyamgram resident Subir Paul (66), under the culpable homicide charge.

    The incident was occurred around 9 am, when the driver, Sunil Mishra, a resident of Ramesh Dutta Street and Kestopur, was trying to park his auto at the Anandamoyi stand. While manoeuvring the vehicle, Mishra brushed past Paul, a pedestrian, standing nearby. Bijoy Pashi, another auto driver who lodged the complainant, said angered, Paul charged at Mishra and attacked him with punches and blows.

    Mishra reportedly did manage to take a few steps back but collapsed on the pavement. He was taken to RG Kar Hospital, where he was declared dead. Other drivers caught Paul and handed him to police.
