• Over 12 TMC workers arrested in 24 hours

  • Kolkata: More than a dozen Trinamool functionaries have been arrested in 24 hours on charges, including extortion, post-poll violence and running illicit rackets.

    Chaos broke out in Canning following the arrest of Trinamool youth president Aritra Bose, wanted for allegedly shooting a BJP worker on counting day. As cops escorted Bose to Alipore court, women surrounded the police station, leading to the deployment of the central force.

    The anti-extortion drive saw the arrest of Bidhannagar councillor Sushovan Mondal and Abhijit Polley. Tarak De, a labour leader close to ex-minister Jyotipriya Mallick, was arrested in Habra. Babul Mondal was arrested in Murshidabad for extortion. Sridam Hawli, a Sheikh Shahjahan aide, was arrested in Sandeshkhali. In Bongaon, locals caught councillor Sukumar Roy. Cops arrested Ashoknagar TMC members Moni Gazi and Sheikh Injamul. tnn
