With OBC quota cut, govt to redraw recruitment roster

Kolkata: State govt departments, public sector companies and other autonomous or semi-autonomous organisations have begun revising their recruitment policies following the fresh notification on reservation for OBCs, which reduced the quota from 17% to 7%.
"The backward classes welfare department has notified 7% reservation for 66 OBC classes in the state. Govt will now have to prepare a roster to implement the revised quota across departments," a senior state govt official said. The roster determines the exact number of posts to be reserved for OBC categories. The department will now consult the finance and personnel departments to prepare the revised roster, another official said.
In the education sector, the University of Calcutta is yet to begin fresh recruitment for staff appointments, which has remained stalled for more than a decade. Under the previous rules, there was a 22% reservation quota, including the OBC-A and OBC-B categories, which now needs to be authenticated by the backward classes welfare department.
An official said, "All our rosters included reservation quotas under the previous format, including the OBC-A and OBC-B categories. Now we need to revise the roster, which must be authenticated. Only then can we issue a fresh recruitment advertisement. This will take some time."
