  • Kolkata: The state govt will soon launch a pilot project on scientific waste management and garbage disposal in the Asansol-Durgapur region under the Centre's Swachh Bharat Mission.

"Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, a pilot initiative will soon begin in the Asansol-Durgapur region focusing on scientific waste management, proper garbage disposal, sanitation, hygiene awareness and cleaner surroundings. Local people, including women and children, will be educated on hygiene practices so that they can learn how to keep their surroundings clear," state municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul posted on X on Wednesday.

Paul attended the national review programme of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 at Vigyan Bhavan on Tuesday, where she held discussions with Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who assured full support for the initiative.

"The project aims to become a model for municipalities across Bengal and will later be expanded to other regions of the state," Paul added.
