  • Kolkata: The Bengal govt has started the process to fill up vacant posts and asked all administrative departments to submit a detailed vacancy report by June 3. The move is aimed at strengthening the administrative machinery and improving public service delivery, an official said.

A circular to this effect, issued by the additional chief secretary to the finance department, stated that a significant number of govt posts remained vacant for a considerable period, making it necessary to conduct a detailed review of the current vacancy position.

Departments have been asked to prepare vacancy reports separately for departmental offices, directorates and regional offices in a prescribed format. The govt has directed that detailed reports should be kept with the departments, and only the consolidated and compiled report should be furnished.

"It is emphasised that number of posts proposed to be filled up through direct recruitment should be supported by adequate justifications," the circular said.

According to the directive, every administrative department has been asked to prepare a detailed and consolidated report on all vacant posts under its jurisdiction as of May 1.

An official said the reports must be submitted only in soft copy format through Excel spreadsheets divided into three separate sheets — department, directorate and regional office — from the official email IDs of the respective HoDs or nodal officers to the designated email addresses of the finance department by June 3.

The govt has also cautioned departments against altering the prescribed template while compiling the data, and the information must be submitted with due diligence.
