Kolkata: Panihati MLA Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar rape-murder victim, met CM Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna on Monday, while BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya told Mousumi Koyal, the face of the Kamduni protests, that he would arranging to take the victim's mother to meet the CM during the Janata Darbar next Monday.
Debnath announced the meeting in a social media post while taking a swipe at former CM Mamata Banerjee. "Today, both Mamata and I are bereaved," she said, adding, "I lost my only daughter…while Mamata lost her seat on the 14th floor (of Nabanna, the CM's office)."
"Wait and watch, she (Mamata) and her team of offenders will face a more tragic fate," she warned.
Debnath's meeting with the CM comes after the Calcutta HC directed CBI to constitute an SIT and conduct a fresh and wide-ranging probe into the RG Kar case and submit its report by June 25. Further, a few days ago, the CM ordered departmental inquiries against three IPS officers involved with the probe.
Meanwhile, the state govt on Monday filed a special leave petition against Calcutta HC's order in the 2013 Kamduni case in which a 20-year-old college student was gang-raped and murdered. The appeal challenges a 2025 HC order commuting death penalties awarded to two of three convicts to life imprisonment and acquitting the third convict.
