President Murmu arrives in Sikkim, to confer police colour on Sikkim Police

President of India Droupadi Murmu arrived in Gangtok on Tuesday on a three-day official visit to Sikkim, during which she is scheduled to attend the 7th Convocation of Sikkim University and confer the prestigious President’s Police Colour upon the Sikkim Police.
The President was accorded a warm reception at Libing Helipad by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Among those present to receive the President were Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly M N Sherpa, Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa, ministers, legislators, senior civil and police officials, representatives of the Indian Army, Chief Secretary R Telang, Director General of Police Akshay Sachdeva, District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Gangtok, besides senior protocol officials.
Later, the President arrived at Lok Bhawan, where she was again received by the Governor and the Chief Minister in the presence of senior state government officials, including R Telang, DGP Akshay Sachdeva, Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Governor Jitendra Singh Raje, and other dignitaries.
As part of her engagements, President Murmu will attend the 7th Convocation ceremony of Sikkim University and on 28 May will confer the President’s Police Colour upon the Sikkim Police at a ceremonial function to be held at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, officials said.
Ahead of the high-profile visit, the Gangtok district administration has imposed a temporary ban on the flying of drones across the district from 26 to 28 May owing to security considerations.
According to an official notification, any violation of the directive will invite action under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and relevant rules of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Meanwhile, the state government has requested advisors, chairpersons, OSDs to the Chief Minister, councillors of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, and officials posted in and around Gangtok to attend the Police Colour presentation ceremony at Paljor Stadium and be seated by 8 a.m.
Heads of departments, secretaries and managing directors of PSUs have also been asked to ensure the presence of officers and staff at the programme. Officials attending the event have been directed to carry their government identity cards, while participants have been encouraged to wear traditional attire.
Authorities further informed that bags and water bottles will not be permitted inside the stadium premises during the event.
