After expressing disappointment against Trinamul Congress, member-mayor-in-council for sewerage and drainage in Kolkata Municipal Corporation submitted his resignation at the civic body headquarters today.
On 26 May, Mr Singh had expressed disappointment over the party strategies demanding a change in the top leadership. He had also vocally claimed inaction over monsoon preparedness meetings held by the civic body authorities every year during this time. The MMiC for the drainage department had alleged that even as the monsoon season is around the corner nothing was being done as part of the preparations. The councillor of ward number 118 said that he had even submitted a letter to the municipal commissioner’s office requesting a meeting on the monsoon preparedness.
However, as alleged, what was being done to handle the situation during the upcoming rainy season by the civic body was neither being communicated to him by the chairman of KMC, Mala Roy nor by Mayor Firhad Hakim.
Echoing his grievances expressed last week in his resignation letter submitted today, the MMiC wrote that he was putting down his papers as he was facing ‘uncomfortable circumstances due to no work in his hand.’ He further claimed that he was coming to office and going back with ‘mental disturbance’.
Speaking to the reporters today, “We have worked with devotion for the past 11 years. We have been able to reduce the waterlogging under KMC to a great extent. Our aim was to reduce it further. However, after the election results, I noticed that representatives from our party are seldom coming to the KMC while we are still in majority here and the municipal commissioner and other officials are bound to listen to us. I told the Mayor about the monsoon meeting and he said he would talk to the municipal commissioner about it. However, I did not get any further response on it. I even told the municipal commissioner to hold the monsoon meeting. I did not get any response from them either.”
