• ‘Whatever comes, I’ll go with it’: Gouri Shankar Ghosh ready to handle any portfolio in Bengal

  • Murshidabad MLA Gouri Shankar Ghosh remains in spotlight in West Bengal BJP as he was recently inducted into the state Cabinet. With years of grassroots organising under his belt, Ghosh took on the tough task of winning the Murshidabad seat in 2021. Now having won the Assembly constituency again, he has made the BJP’s mark stronger in the region.

Political observers have stated that Ghosh gets along really well with the locals. Before getting his ministry job, Ghosh kept things normal when talking about his potential roles. “Our party is democratic,” he pointed out. “We’ll see where I’m needed most. Whatever comes, I’ll go with it.”

So no matter what department he joins, he’s ready to dive in.

As for his government’s main goals, Ghosh said it is focused on development and creating jobs — plain and simple.

Talking about how the BJP witnessed success in places like Murshidabad and Malda, Ghosh believes it is due to security concerns. Many people felt that unity was key to a better future. He says some in the minority communities had been left wanting in terms of development. And as Ghosh puts it, this realisation led them to vote for a different party this time.

Aiming at their rivals, the Trinamool Congress, Ghosh mentions how things have become rougher for farmers in recent times. Costs are soaring for them — with no assurance of fair pay for labour. It’s been a struggle for everyday people, he explains.

“They’re just sick of it and wanted changes,” Ghosh states firmly.

Looking ahead, Ghosh stays positive. His wish list for the next five years? Jobs for all, farmers thriving, and new openings for the youth. Overall, a simpler life for everyone.

Promising to stay focused on keeping people safe and progressing, Ghosh asserts the BJP’s dedication to making Murshidabad and Bengal “awesome” for its residents.
