  • West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday announced a probe into the expenditure incurred on organising the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) during the tenure of the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the state.

Adhikari alleged that a sum of Rs 635 crore was paid to an event management company for organising the BGBS.

“I found out that Rs 635 crore had been paid to a particular event management company to organise the BGBS. The previous government led by former chief minister Mamata Banerjee was the organiser of the event,” Adhikari said in Kolkata on Friday.

The chief minister was addressing a press conference organised by the BJP to mark 12 years of the BJP-led government at the Centre.

“The amount is huge. We will launch an investigation to probe how this amount was spent by former chief minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress government,” Adhikari added.

The chief minister further said that the investigation would also examine whether there was any money laundering involved.

“We will not let anyone go scot-free. We will also probe the money laundering angle in the matter,” Adhikari added.
