  • Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari said the Centre would address protests in Bangladesh over the "pushback" of alleged illegal immigrants after reports emerged that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami MP Golam Sarwar Bhuyian had sought a discussion on the matter.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on 12 years of NDA govt, Adhikari said, "I can't comment on foreign policy matters. Bangladesh shares borders with five states. (Only) the ministry of external affairs may comment."

Reports in Bangladeshi media say the country's parliament may take up India's "push back" of allegedly undocumented Bangladeshi and Myanmar nationals on Monday. Adhikari had earlier said Bengal police would pick up illegal immigrants and hand them over to BSF, which would then deport them.

Meanwhile, UN in Bangladesh has raised concerns and said that it was closely monitoring reports of incidents along the India-Bangladesh border.
