  • KOLKATA: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) administrator and commissioner Smita Pandey has appealed to citizens to participate with enthusiasm in the World Yoga Day celebrations in Kolkata on June 21, 2026.

Urging people across the city to join the Maha-Yoga campaign, Pandey requested citizens to take their yoga mats and gather at their institutions, schools, playgrounds, parks, clubs, rooftops, society open spaces, and streets designated by Kolkata Police near their homes.

“The yoga session will be held from 6. 30am to 7. 45am on June 21, 2026. I humbly request everyone to participate and help make this citywide event a success. Together, let us contribute to keeping Kolkata healthy,” Pandey said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to be present in Kolkata on the day to lead the yoga initiative.

The KMC, under the joint management of the Government of West Bengal and the Government of India, will organise the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations in the city under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Living.”

Pandey called upon students, youth, senior citizens, government employees, workers, athletes, healthcare professionals, social organisations, clubs, associations, and people from all communities to come together for the event.

Emphasising yoga’s role in promoting physical and mental well-being, she said the campaign is an opportunity for citizens to embrace a healthier lifestyle and celebrate India’s ancient tradition of yoga as part of a global movement.
