  • Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Kunal Ghosh appeared at the West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters at Bhabani Bhawan on Sunday afternoon. The party’s general secretary and second-in-command Abhishek Banerjee was already being grilled by investigators at the office when Ghosh entered the premises.

The CID had issued a notice to the Beleghata MLA in connection with the forged-signature case directing him to appear at Bhabani Bhaban on Sunday.

The TMC leaders are being interrogated in connection with the case of mismatches in the signatures of some TMC legislators on a resolution regarding appointments for important slots in the West Bengal Assembly reserved for the Opposition bench.

The TMC general secretary was earlier questioned by the CID officials on Thursday when he landed up at the CID headquarters after skipping three summons. Abhishek had acted on the directions of the Calcutta High Court which had ordered him to cooperate with the probe agency’s investigation.

Abhishek was questioned for five and a half hours on that day. However probe officials were not satisfied with his answers and summoned him again on Sunday at noon.

On Saturday, the West Bengal police carried out a pre-dawn search operation at Abhishek’s Kalighat residence looking for his executive assistant, Sumit Roy, who is reportedly absconding in a land fraud case.
