The rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs whose number has now swelled to 22, have conglomerated at senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and West Bengal-in-charge Bhupender Yadav’s residence in Delhi, ahead of their meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday.
Visuals taken by ANI showed senior TMC leaders who have now joined the rebel faction including Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Arup Chakraborty, Kakoli Ghosh, Mala Roy, Satabdi Roy, Prasun Banerjee, as well as Saayoni Ghosh, who was seen as a staunch supporter of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, arriving at Yadav’s place in Delhi.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has also arrived at Yadav’s residence for the crucial meeting.
Earlier in the day, rebel MPs Mala Roy, Sharmila Sarkar, June Maliah and Bapi Halder were spotted at the Kolkata airport before they flew to the national capital.
Sources have claimed that the rebel group may hold a meeting convened by Sudip Bandyopadhyay. Following this, the group will be having dinner at Delhi’s Banga Bhawan, where BJP leaders Yadav and Dubey may join them.
The TMC seems to be on the verge of a split, following the same playbook of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra in 2022.
Earlier, the rebel MPs met Yadav on Monday, to discuss their plan of action. The group was headed by Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar who is largely seen as the leader of these dissident MPs.
The political storm in Delhi comes weeks after rebel TMC leader Ritabrata Banerjee drummed up support of at least 64 MLAs and claimed the Leader of Oppostion (LoP) post for himself in the West Bengal assembly soon after the elections.
