Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has left the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters at Kolkata’s Bhabani Bhaban at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday.
Banerjee made a stopover at TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee’s residence on his way back to his place. The former Chief Minister had earlier visited the Calcutta High Court to file a petition challenging the Bhabanipur assembly election result where she was defeated by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari by a margin of 15,105 votes.
The party second-in command has been questioned for a marathon 31 hours over the last four days by the CID as well as the Enforcement Directorate.
Banerjee was questioned in the alleged inflammatory remarks case by the CID on Tuesday. The case pertains to one of his remarks allegedly related to playing DJ music, which was construed by some as call to violence.
The Trinamoon No. 2 landed up at the Enforcement Directorate office on Monday, where he was being questioned in a primary school recruitment scam.
The Diamond Harbour MP is also being questioned by the CID in the alleged signature mismatch case and has already been at Bhabani Bhaban for two rounds of questioning on Thursday, and again on Sunday, where he was questioned for a total of more than 14 hours. Beleghata MLA Kunal Ghosh was also called in for questioning in the case. Sources indicate that the CID has located several inconsistencies in their statements and may be calling in Banerjee for questioning for the third time to its headquarters.
Banerjee had earlier skipped three summons from the state probe agency citing health issues. The last summon was allegedly ignored when he was in Delhi, where he met Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
