  • Howrah: A dispute over a railway toilet tender turned fatal on Tuesday when a 52-year-old man was stabbed to death at the crowded Mourigram railway station.

    The incident occurred around 12.30pm inside the toilet on platform number 1. Railway police identified the deceased as Sanjay Giri, a resident of Bauria. The accused, Raju Das (50) of Sankrail, was caught by passengers while trying to flee and was severely beaten before being handed over to the police.

    According to police sources, the two men were locked in an argument over a tender related to the station toilet before the confrontation escalated. Locals said the argument turned abusive and then physical, following which Das allegedly attacked Giri with a large dagger. Giri, who sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen, was rushed to Howrah District Hospital, where he was declared dead. The weapon has been recovered.
