KOLKATA: A police vehicle carrying TMC leader Vijay Singh alias Bhola Singh was allegedly pelted with eggs outside the Asansol court on Friday, with people in the crowd shouting “chor, chor” at him.
Earlier on June 18, former West Bengal minister and TMC leader Udayan Guha was pelted with eggs by a crowd outside the Dinhata Police Station in Cooch Behar as he was being escorted to a prison van for production before a court following his arrest in an alleged extortion case.
Locals claimed that eggs were thrown at Guha when he came out of the police station. Wearing a helmet, the former minister avoided direct hits to his face, though several eggs struck his body as he walked towards the van.
A large crowd had gathered outside the police station hours before his departure. Protesters raised slogans as police personnel formed a security cordon around Guha.
The BJP alleged that its workers in Dinhata had faced years of political violence during Guha's tenure in power. Local BJP leader Jibesh Biswas claimed that opposition activists in the area were subjected to intimidation, attacks and looting between 2016 and 2026.
Guha, son of veteran Forward Bloc leader Kamal Guha, joined the Trinamool Congress in 2016 and later served as a minister in the state government.
His arrest is linked to an alleged extortion case related to the construction of a paediatric intensive care unit at the Dinhata Sub-Divisional Hospital.
