Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday questioned a former commissioner of Kolkata Police and two former deputy commissioners as as part of its probe, which has been reopened, into allegations of evidence destruction and attempts to shield the culprits in the Aug 2024 R G Kar rape-murder case.
Among those questioned is Vineet Goyal, who, as chief of KP, supervised the probe before CBI took it over. Former DC (Central) Indira Mukherjee and former DC (North) Abhishek Gupta were interrogated at length too and numerous documents were re-examined in their presence, a senior CBI official said. Mukherjee was not linked to the main probe that KP carried out for five days before it was handed over to CBI.
All three were suspended in May following the political change of guard in the state.
