Businessman arrested for filming CM’s convoy near Nabanna

Howrah: A businessman was arrested after allegedly stepping in front of the convoy of chief minister Suvendu Adhikari in the VIP zone of Nabanna and attempting to record a video on his phone, police and local sources said on Friday.
The man, identified as Pankaj Sharma (29), was produced before a Howrah court and later released on bond on medical grounds.
The court directed him to appear before the investigating officer once a week and barred him from leaving Howrah without informing police.
Sources in Howrah City Police said Sharma was arrested by Shibpur police on Thursday night. Around 6 pm, as the chief minister’s convoy moved from the parking area towards the VIP lift before leaving Nabanna, Sharma allegedly appeared near the route and started taking pictures. CRPF personnel noticed and alerted the director of security. Police then detained Sharma and later arrested him.
Police identified Sharma as a businessman from Dasnagar. Locals claimed he is a Trinamool worker. He was handed over to the Howrah Police Commissionerate and later, transferred to Kolkata Police’s STF.
