  • Kolkata/Malda: Itahar MLA Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday became the latest senior Trinamool neta to quit the party, resigning as state president of Trinamool minority cell and declaring his alignment with Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee.

Hossain said he had already sent his resignation letter to Kalighat, citing personal and family reasons. “Since the change of the govt in power, it has no longer been possible to work as before. So, in the interest of the people of my area and for the sake of development, I have spoken with opposition Leader Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay and have chosen to align myself with him,” he said.

The MLA also praised CM Suvendu Adhikari and expressed his desire to contribute to the state’s development under his leadership. “The current chief minister of the state once served as our party’s observer for North Dinajpur district. From that time onward, I have shared a very cordial and positive relationship with him. My foremost objective now is the overall development of the area, and in the days ahead, I want to be part of the development initiatives that will take place in the state under his leadership,” Hossain said.

With Hossain’s exit, all five Trinamool MLAs from North Dinajpur have now joined the Ritabrata camp. The party is yet to respond to the development.
