‘Forced to do sit-ups’: Viral videos show TMC leader Sapan Samanta paraded with shoe garland; eggs, tomatoes hurled

KOLKATA: Former Tarakeswar municipality chairman and senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sapan Samanta was allegedly humiliated by local residents in West Bengal's Hooghly district over allegations of corruption.
According to news agency ANI, an angry group of locals garlanded Samanta with shoes and forced him to perform sit-ups while holding his ears.
The locals also pelted him with eggs and tomatoes as they voiced their anger over the alleged irregularities.
Videos of the incident, which have surfaced on social media, showed the former civic chief being surrounded by residents amid slogans and public outrage.
The protesters accused him of corruption and demanded accountability.
The Trinamool Congress has not yet issued a detailed statement on the matter.
