FIR demanded against Diamond Harbour MP-linked ‘Shraddhargyo’ pension initiative

Kolkata: A complaint has been lodged at Bishnupur Police Station seeking an investigation into the funding, administration, and beneficiary selection process of the Trinamool Congress-backed private pension initiative, Shraddhargyo, which has been publicly associated with Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee.
The complaint was filed by social activist and former Lok Sabha candidate Abhijit Das, popularly known as Bobby, who urged the police to register an FIR and conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the source, collection, management, and distribution of funds under the scheme.
According to the complaint, nearly 76,000 senior citizens are reportedly receiving a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 through the initiative. Based on these figures, the annual financial outlay of the programme is estimated to be around Rs 91.2 crore. The complainant has questioned how such a substantial corpus is being mobilised and administered, alleging a complete lack of publicly available information regarding donor contributions, audited financial statements, beneficiary records, or other transparency measures generally associated with large-scale financial operations.
