  • Kolkata: The state govt on Tuesday issued a notification declaring Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s birth anniversary on July 6 as a holiday. The chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday, after the budget, declared that from this year onwards July 6 would be a holiday to pay tribute to him. On Tuesday, after offering floral tribute to Mookerjee’s statue near Red Road, the higher education minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay said, “We are observing Syama Prasad Mookerjee fortnight from Tuesday to July 6 across all the education institutions to remember his contributions.” This year was the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, and the state govt has planned a grand celebration in his memory.
