Kalyani: Nilimesh Roy Chowdhury, chairman of Nadia’s Kalyani Municipality, resigned on Tuesday, civic sources said. His exit follows the recent resignations of vice-chairman Balaram Maji and a few councillors.
The civic body has been in turmoil since Monday night, when councillor Arup Mukherjee was assaulted by miscreants who ransacked his ward office, damaging computers and television screens.
Condemning the violence, BJP netas denied any involvement and claimed the attack was the fallout of an internal factional feud within the Trinamool Congress.
