Agartala: The NIA has filed a chargesheet against 11 individuals accused of involvement in terrorism and an anti-national conspiracy tied to a faction of the outlawed JMB. Among them, Nasimuddin has been identified as the suspected leader of IMK’s operations in Assam, while Jagir Mia led the faction’s activities in Tripura.
The group was working collectively to expand its extremist agenda across West Bengal and the northeastern states. Based on the investigation, the chargesheet has been submitted to the NIA Special Court in Guwahati under various provisions of the BNS 2023 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
According to the NIA, the suspects were actively engaged with a splinter group known as Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), established by senior JMB leader Imam Mahmud Habibullah, with the intent of furthering the banned organisation’s objectives in India.
During the probe, investigators seized significant material, including documents, electronic gadgets and other digital evidence from the possession of the accused, which they claim substantiate the alleged conspiracy. This case forms part of the agency’s broader campaign to dismantle terrorist networks and curb the growth of extremist groups across the nation, intelligence officials stated.
The NIA asserted that the primary objective of the operation was to disseminate JMB’s extremist ideology, particularly in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and other bordering states of the eastern and northeastern territories. The group allegedly aimed to radicalise vulnerable youth, expand its influence and incite anti-India sentiments.
Investigators revealed that the accused conspired through clandestine meetings, religious indoctrination programmes, the distribution of extremist materials and the use of online platforms to recruit followers and solidify loyalty to IMK and JMB leadership.
