Kolkata: A city court on Saturday extended the police custody of Trinamool functionary Swarup Biswas till June 30. He was arrested in an alleged case of financial irregularity of Rs 23 lakh, registered at the Regent Park Police Station.
Investigators said nearly Rs 23 lakh was spent under various heads, but no proper account or supporting document was furnished to justify the expenditure.
Biswas was produced before the Alipore court after the expiry of his earlier police remand. The prosecution sought his further custodial interrogation, arguing that more time was required to trace the flow of funds, verify financial records and examine the alleged accounting discrepancies.
After hearing the submissions, the court remanded Biswas to police custody till June 30 in the case.
