Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday refused to quash an FIR against CM Suvendu Adhikari in connection with a 2024 Kolaghat case during his tenure as the leader of the opposition, but extended his interim protection until Sept 30.
In the writ petition, Adhikari said that on May 21, 2024, around 6pm, people in police uniform arrived at his office-cum-residence in Kolaghat and tried to forcibly enter the premises. His counsel Moyukh Mukherjee said the team had failed to produce any search warrant, and challenged the legality of the attempted search.
The HC has repeatedly extended Adhikari’s interim protection earlier. On May 24, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya extended it until Aug 30 and asked the state whether it wanted to withdraw the case in view of a change in the ruling dispensation. On Monday, the state said there had been no further development.
The court listed the matter in July for final orders.
