Kolkata: At least three students were injured – one of them seriously – after the pool car they were travelling in was hit by a private car near the J&N Island, next to the Red Road-Outram Road-Dufferin Road Crossing. The accident took place at 7.37 am on Monday.
The Maidan PS and South traffic guard, along with a passerby, took the three injured kids to SSKM Hospital.
"A class 5 student suffered injuries on her head and received stitches. Another child suffered a shin bone injury and a third received cuts on her hand. The injured Aarashya Banerjee (11), Agnitri Majhi (11) and Ishanvi Bag (10) are all residents of Howrah. Officers of South Traffic Guard arranged a bus, provided water and sent the remaining six students along with the attendants to the Maidan PS. The driver was briefed to drive cautiously," said an officer.
While nine students were present inside the SUV that was involved in the accident, three students were also present in the other private car. The students travelling in the private car escaped unhurt, said an officer.
Police stated that the children travelling in the pool car were all students of Loreto Day School on Elliot Road, and the three children travelling in the private car were students of the two La Martiniere schools.
Police have stated that both drivers were at fault . "We will carry out mechanical tests of both the vehicles," said an investigating officer.
