  • Malda: A 3-month-old’s finger was clipped at Chanchal Super Specialty Hospital while a ward boy, instead of a nurse, tried to remove the child’s IV line. A police complaint was filed against the ward boy and he was suspended.

On June 26, Harishchandrapur’s Mijanur Rahman and his wife, Najma Biwi, admitted their baby to the hospital. The child was to be discharged on Tuesday.

On Monday, the nurse on duty allegedly asked ward boy Uttam Saha to do the procedure. Saha used scissors to cut the tape securing the IV, but accidentally clipped part of the baby’s finger.

Amid protests by the baby’s family, hospital superintendent Sumit Talukdar on Tuesday called the incident “very unfortunate.” He said an inquiry committee was already formed on the instructions of the CMOH.
